My first experience on Air China has been an interesting one so far. We had a transfer in Beijing to fly over to Rome. The transfer was incredibly inefficient. We had 2.5 hours between our flights and barely made it on time, as security took a really long time. We got on our plane 7 minutes before the gate closed; Not my idea of an ideal transfer. If we did check in our luggage I have a feeling we wouldn’t have made the transfer.
The plane itself had a few pleasant surprises. It’s a brand new plane with more than 3 movies – hubby is entertained as I type this up.
Our experience also came with a few disappointments. I wanted to get another glass of wine while I type away on my laptop, but apparently Air China does not serve alcohol during ‘rest time’s. I was also told off for listening to a podcast on my phone. What CAN you do on this flight!?
I did a little searching on the internet and found out most airlines in China banned cellphone use altogether, as there were a lot of cheaper phones being manufactured without adequate ‘airplane mode’. It’s hard to tell which phones are okay and which are not, so in order to ensure safety, they banned all phones. I guess that works.
The ban on cellphones seemed to have been lifted in January 2018 (yeyyy!!), so you can now use your phones to listen to podcasts, and you won’t need to lug a laptop or iPad around for some in flight entertainment. SUPER awesome news.
One problem remains… limited wine.
