Hey friends. Seems people think I’m this perfect zen mom, but NEWS FLASH: I’m a normal mom that gets annoyed at my kid. I do have a few secrets tho. Although creating a healthy home environment is important, it’s your mindset that needs to shift. And I want to share with you how I turned it around before the morning hours fly by.
I’m not going to lie. Being 5 months pregnant with a one year hold has been hard. But I refuse to be the negative mom who screams all day. I tried that. It didn’t work out for anybody in this household.
This morning my kid woke up earlier than usual at 5:25 (he went to bed at 19:15 so this shouldn’t be surprising), and it was one of those hangry kind of mornings. Making breakfast with a one year old glued to your hip while the small person inside of you is having a party is not exactly how I planned our morning to go.
But here we are.
I caught myself being overwhelmingly annoyed that there’s yogurt flying everywhere. I mean, yogurt everywhere is a normal morning thing in this house. Nothing new. #1 was just doing his usual breakkie thing. The only change was my mindset.
The turning point
After I cleaned everything up and sat down, #1 started pointing and grunting at the yoga cats deck. He points and grunts at things he wants to touch these days. It’s so amazing to see him figure out how to communicate without using words. Knowing the cards are gonna get everywhere, I sat down on the floor with him, checked in with my mindset, exhaled, took a fresh breathe of air, and opened the box.
He picked one card and put it on the floor. Then I had an idea. What if we pull 3 cards for my Insta circle, and share the message with everyone? I clearly can use a good message right now, and I’m sure there’s a few people that feel the same way. So that’s what we did.
We both enjoyed playing with the cards, pointing at the cats, and reading the message each card had to offer. 10 minutes into our mindful card practice, we were both feeling much better. I felt better after getting reminders of how to think positively. Lu felt better that mommy was present with him.
Here’s the secret. It’s in the mindset.
It’s not really a secret, but it sure feels like it sometimes. Thinking negatively is much easier than thinking positively. That’s why many people don’t do it. If you think positively, you’ll get positive results. When you think negatively, you’ll get negative results. I know just because you think positively doesn’t always get you positive results, because privilege. But I can say thinking negatively won’t get you positive results. So why not have a positive mindset?
If you think of the same thing over and over again, eventually it will become your truth. So why not think of something positive? I remind myself that although life with kids is hard, the sweet moments make it all worth it.
