Hey, I love food. I also love self-care. And I know a cozy dish of comfort food does wonders, but food should not be the only thing that makes us feel safe, secure, and recharge. Here are 3 of my favorite ways to practice self-care without food.
1. Soak in the bathtub
I always like a good bath. These days I run the bath at a low temperature for the baby, and honestly it only does half the job for me. When I feel like I need a break, I run a hotter bath (around 41c), put on some face mask and indulge in the peace and quiet. Remember to take care of your skin.
2. Read a book or magazine
Reading is one of my fav things. It takes me to another world, triggers my imagination and I learn new things. Sometimes it helps me realize what I already know is worthy of writing, and I better get to writing on the blog. I love checking out bookstores. Picking up a book that catches my eye, buying it, and reading it at home feels good.
3. Declutter one spot in the house
Do you get really annoyed when you can’t find what you’re looking for in your house? Or when there’s not enough space in the drawer to put something away? I do. Honestly, I get really irrationally angry. When I do it’s time to declutter that spot. Also known as Kon-Mari-ing or anger cleaning. Hey, if it works, I don’t care if there’s a level or anger involved. My rule when decluttering a spot is to leave the space 20% empty. That way it’s easy to take things out, and put away. Less stress, happy me and you.
There’s a whole lot more possibilities when it comes to self-care. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and have no idea where to start, I recommend checking out my self-care guide. It also comes with a mini quiz that will help you check what stage or self-care you’re at, and steps you can take to create more space in your life.
