Am I the only one who used to find this word SUPER annoying!?
Please say no.
Here’s why I thought it’s annoying. Bc the things people have mentioned as ‘self-care’ is more like ‘self-grooming’. How is taking a nice hot shower, washing your hair, getting a pedicure, or getting your lashes done self-care!? I’ll admit – I’ve never been the most girly girl. I used to go home from kindergarten with mud on my face. If I cut my hair once every 10 months I consider that I go to the salon often. I like heels but don’t walk in them.
That’s not the point today.
The point with self-care is spending some QT (quality time) with yo self. Show yourself you appreciate yourself and do some things you love. If you do like long hot showers and blowouts and pedicures than it can be on your list. Just remember it doesn’t HAVE to be on your list.
Here are 10 simple ways that I like to take care of myself.
I hope it inspires you to make your own list.
1. Hydrate hydrate HYDRATE!
Did you know that most Americans are dehydrated? How many glasses of water do you drink a day vs everything else you drink that’s not water? Sometimes the trick isn’t drinking more water but more of cutting out some of the non-water stuff you’re drinking. Coffee, teas, soda, alcohol.. ya know, the usual evils.
I will always always ALWAYS recommend meditation. It helps clear the mind, helps you focus and vibrate higher. What’s not to love?
3. Eat breakfast
And I mean don’t shove a bagel or cheerios in your face. Set your day up for success with a healthy brekkie. If you’re not a breakfast kind of person, I highly recommend starting your day with a nutrition-packed shake. It’s yummy, healthy, and packs the fuel you need to run your day strong.
4. Wash your face properly
I used to splash water on my face or use a makeup removing wipe and call it a day. I mean, it IS better than sleeping in your makeup. Only slightly better. 5. Go to a cafe
I’m one of those who can spend hours at a cafe. I love reading, writing, people watching and being away from the usual scenery. As a complicated introvert who likes to be around people and not be obligated to strike up a conversation, coffee shops are great! I can chit chat a bit and can all go back to what I was doing without the awkward I’m gonna move seats so I don’t have to talk to you anymore.. or the I’m leaving so I don’t have to talk to you anymore.
6. Go to a bathhouse
One of my fav things about living in Japan is the ONSEN (hot springs) and the bathhouses. Gotta love a good onsen. Even better if there’s a sauna! Hubby and I usually go every weekend and we spend 2 peaceful hours. My fav part of the week for sure.
7. Book a ‘do nothing’ day
I used to be that person with a super crazy schedule. If I let loose I’ll have ZERO days of doing nothing, and I made it a point to have at least one day a month to not do anything. This means one day that I get to stay in my PJs and chill at home all. day. long. Beautiful. Nowadays I am for a bi-weekly do nothing day on the weekends, and I avoid booking anything around my period. Game changer!
8. Turn off your notifications
Do you really need to know who liked your photo as soon as they like it? Or can it wait a bit? You’re probably checking your Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and whatever else multiple times a day. No need to have a ding go off every single update. It takes a bit to get used to for sure. You’ll feel like no one cares about you and your post (#truestory) because you’re not getting the notification. I promise you’ll adapt to it and enjoy the quietness and space it creates.
Ever have 5 million things go through your head and not know where to start or stop thinking?? Time to journal it out. Set a timer for 10 minutes, put the pen to the paper and go. You’ll be surprised if how light you feel once you get a hang of it! My latest strike of inspiration has been from one of my journal sessions, and this is one of the things that came to life.
10. Take quality supplements
Most people who are into health exercise regularly and watch what they eat. The missing piece in their health puzzle is proper supplementation. NOURISH your body. You only got one this round of life.
